Southern Illinois has many hunting and fishing opportunities throughout the year. Our region provides thousands of acres of public and private ground to hunt white-tail deer, water fowl ( Canada geese, snow geese, blue geese, mallards, teal, gadwall, widgeon, divers, bluebills, redheads, canvasbacks and ringneck ducks), wild turkeys, squirrels, doves, quail and rabbits. Our many lakes contain a number of fish such as largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish, walleyes, musky, hybrid striped bass, white bass and rainbow trout. Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge also offers area visitors the opportunity to view over 245 species of birds.
